Rev. Kathleen McKern Verigin is a licensed and ordained New Thought
minister whose focus is creating ritual and ceremony that transform life
events into magical memories. During the past twenty years Kathleen has
designed and facilitated hundreds of unique ceremonies for a variety of
life events: family blessings, housewarming parties, baptisms and baby
blessings, graduations, retirement, relocating, transfer of business
ownership, landmark birthdays and anniversaries, pet funerals, divorce,
and health concerns. She has officiated over 250 weddings, and dozens of
memorial services.
Born, raised and educated in Ames, Iowa, Kathleen moved to Portland in
1975. Having worked at a radio station as a part-time job in college,
Kathleen immediately got a job at KWJJ Radio in Portland. Her experience
in promotions and copywriting led her to KATU-TV(ABC) in 1977. By 1980
Kathleen joined the staff of “AM Northwest” (live morning talk show)
where she spent the next nine years, the last six as senior producer. In
1990 she followed her heart and became a television documentary writer
and producer for KGW-TV (NBC). Fourteen months and four documentaries
later, Kathleen received a lay off notice and Emmy Award—both in the
same week. Over the next few years Kathleen discovered and committed to
her lifelong passion for Spirit. After a lifetime of spiritual pursuits,
and three years of focused study, Kathleen became a licensed minister
in 1996. She was ordained in June of 2002.
From 1994 to 1998 Kathleen designed and facilitated full and new moon
ceremonies for women. She served as founding minister to Heart &
Soul Ministries from 1998 to 2000. For the next two years she designed
and facilitated the mid-week healing services at Unity of Beaverton.
From 2003 to 2006 Kathleen served as minister at Abundant Life Center,
an independent New Thought church in Vancouver, Washington.
Kathleen has designed and taught a wide variety of spiritual classes and
workshops: personal empowerment, discovering right livelihood,
prosperity, introduction to mandalas, chakras, the Divine Feminine,
Celtic spirituality, world religions, and various aspects of how to
create ritual and ceremony. She is a popular guest speaker at a variety
of Portland area New Thought churches—most frequently at Celebration
Church in Wilsonville, Oregon.
Kathleen has had numerous articles published in a variety of local
newspapers, including The Portland Observer and Community ConneXions. In
1998 Kathleen was a featured author in Chocolate for a Woman’s Heart,
the sequel to the best-selling Chocolate for a Woman’s Soul. She has a
booklet for sale filled with creative ideas to celebrate the full
moon—for individuals, couples and families. Kathleen also produced and
performed in a meditative CD titled Return Again.
An avid student of world religions, Kathleen is particularly interested
in Celtic Spirituality. Her Irish roots (daughter of Mary Kathleen
Connolly McKern) motivated her to take several trips to The Emerald
Isle. In the spring of 2000 Kathleen spent a month in Ireland on a solo
pilgrimage of the soul. It was there that she studied and practiced the
elements of Celtic spirituality. She shared this knowledge at Unity of
Beaverton every six weeks with “Turning of the Wheel” ceremonies. The
ceremonies honored the solstices, equinoxes, and the four cross-quarter
festivals in between. For wedding couples interested in Celtic
spirituality, Kathleen offers an ancient hand-fasting ceremony given to
her by a High Priestess in Ireland. She has guided seven sacred site
tours to Ireland, with the next one planned for April 2012. Interested
travelers can email Kathleen and ask to be added to her travelers’ list:
