“A generous heart is never lonesome.”   John O’Donohue

One of the early visions of Anam Cara Connections is to have a yearly service project. Rather than going in search of a charity to support, the Core Council let the vision emerge. And emerge it did!

On December 19, 2009, seven amazing women gathered to stuff 30 Christmas stockings for the children and families of Ronald McDonald House in Portland, Oregon. Council member Cass Wick led the effort. Several people donated hundreds of dollars worth of toys, games, crafts and candies; scarves, socks and gloves; and all sorts of girly things and small items of interest to boys.

On December 20th, Cass and Rev. Kathleen delivered not only the 30 stockings, but also two over flowing boxes of goodies to be used all year long—cocoa, card games, hand sanitizers, and dozens of little gloves.

One way to connect is through service, which ACC intends to continue in the years ahead. For now, we bask in the glow of knowing that many hearts were lifted by our simple gesture of generosity.
